Assistant Professor in Counseling Psychology (Tenure-Track)

Department: Psychology
Location: Chestertown, MD

The Department of Psychology at Washington College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Counseling Psychology to begin in August 2019.  Candidates must have a doctorate in Counseling Psychology or a related discipline by the start date.  Preference will be given to individuals able to teach Theories and Processes of Counseling, Psychopathology, General Psychology, and an upper-level course within one’s area of expertise.  The ability to contribute to other related course offerings such as Personality, Multicultural Psychology, and Learning/Applied Behavior Analysis is highly desirable. All Washington College departments contribute to the college’s First Year Seminar Program, so the ability to teach a first year writing course based on a topic of your interest is also desirable.  The normal teaching load is three courses per semester.

We particularly value candidates who demonstrate an interest in undergraduate education in a liberal arts setting and an interest in engaging students within and outside the classroom. Although the specific area of research interest within counseling psychology is open, the successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent program of research that involves undergraduate students. This position comes with dedicated lab/meeting space within the Psychology Department.

Washington College, founded in 1782, is a liberal arts institution located on the rural Eastern Shore of Maryland. We have about 1,450 students from 35 states and 40 nations and a 12:1 ratio of students to educators. Psychology is one of the three largest majors at Washington College and the majority of our majors choose to complete our Clinical-Counseling concentration within the major.

Please submit a CV, a letter describing teaching and research goals, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and a cover letter identifying area(s) of expertise and courses you are prepared to teach through our online portal. Three letters of reference should be sent to CounselingPsychologyPosition@washcoll.edu.  Priority will be given to those who apply before October 19th but applications received after this date will continue to be considered until the position is filled.  Inquiries should be directed to Professor Cindy Gibson, Chair of the Psychology Department (cgibson2@washcoll.edu).

Washington College is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to a diverse cultural environment and encourages applications from women, minorities, disabled persons, and veterans.
