Director of Financial Aid

Washington College in Chestertown, MD is seeking a Director of Financial Aid. This position reports to the Vice President for Enrollment Management and serves as a key member of the Enrollment Management leadership team. The position requires a dynamic and knowledgeable professional who will lead and direct the undergraduate financial aid operations.

The successful candidate will lead a team of five financial aid professionals in administering the College’s student financial aid program and internal/external scholarship programs by utilizing College resources to maximize enrollment while maintaining full compliance with all federal, state, and College regulations, policies, and procedures. 

Essential Duties:

  • Provide leadership, management, and supervision for all student financial aid awarding, verification processes and scholarship programs while maintaining compliance with all federal and state regulations and revise policies and procedures to accommodate changes in federal and state regulations and institutional policies.
  • Provide oversight of all financial aid resources, as well as financial aid compliance and reporting, department staffing, operations, and training.
  • Work with EM team and College Relations and Marketing to develop and implement effective marketing strategies and materials.
  • Assist VP for Enrollment Management in implementing an effective merit and need based aid strategy.
  • Provide system support, including management, maintenance, installation, testing, and support of all financial aid software for the Office of Student Aid.  Includes the Ellucian Colleague financial aid software module, U.S. Department of Education and various state scholarship offices’ software and electronic systems, and financial aid service provider software and web based products (NSLDS, COD, MHEC, AwardSpring, etc.).
  • Develop, analyze, and interpret statistical data for reporting; prepare statistical data for reporting; prepare institutional, state and federal reports. Responsible for the submission of IPEDS Reports, FISAP for Title IV monies, institutional surveys and Common Data set, NCAA Division III FADMS, and all reports dealing with Federal, institutional and state student aid funds.
  • Provide outreach services for prospective students and families, conduct community workshops related to financial aid and admissions, and financial planning advice and debt management counseling for parents and students.
  • Recommend and implement techniques to improve accountability, maintain internal control, increase efficiencies, cut costs, take advantage of opportunities, and maintain state-of-the-art practices.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred. 5 years’ related work experience.
